The migration procedure consists of the four main steps listed below:
- Request migration permission and transfer Task State Segment and Logical Disk Table
- Transfer the logical machine's memory space
- Transfer the logical machine's video frame buffer
- Transfer the ILMC message buffer
The actual protocol to request and execute a migration involves a variety of actions including
suspension of the logical machine that is to be migrated, permission negotiations, logical machine
creation on the destination host and more. For a detailed list see figure 8 on page 326 in [1].
